Day Four!

Today we started teaching english!  We taught three sessions!  Our favorite is the morning session because we get to teach the children!  It is so awesome to watch them learn while they are having fun!  After some monitoring and adjusting, the adult classes seemed to go well.  Tomorrow will be easier because we have figured out what works the best!

We toured some Serbian Orthodox Monastaries this afternoon.  The churches there were beautiful!  Both were built in the 1700s and were very ornate.  It struck me that at the time they were built, many people would have been struggeling just to have enough to eat.  Yet, it was obvious that large amounts of money were spent on the decoration of the churches.  I began to think about our own churches.  People are in pain and need everywhere.  As a church, we are called to minister to these people.  Sometimes I wonder if we could not fulfill this calling better if we spent our money on people instead beautiful buildings.  Something to reflect on anyway.

Bethany and I are beginning to learn some Serbian words.  We love Serbian foods!  Today we went to a large Serbian grocery store!  We are getting to know many people in the Serbian church!  Please pray as we build relationships and partnerships and have experiences that will allow us to continue to serve along side these amazing people!  Ciao!

First Day!

This is Bethany.

Okay, so jetlag? Feelin' it. I can personally account for it's existance and whereabouts. In Serbia, time is 7 hours later than american time. So it's the evening here. The flights were... tiring. Boring. Made me deaf for a while, because my ears didn't pop like they were supposed to. I felt like I had pillows up against my ears. The food is delicious. Like, very, very good. The bread is fresh and delicious. And I've been eating A LOT. I know you guys are jealous!

Tomorrow is the first english class. And you know, I have no idea how many people will show up.

This is Marabeth!  We have been so busy, we haven't had much time to blog!  So Bethany has not had time to finish!  So you are stuck with me!

We finally arrived at our host home at 9:30 last night!  Our hosts are Boza and Silvija!  They are hillarious and treat us like sisters!  We love it!  This morning we slept in a little, then Silvija made us an awesome breakfast!  The food here is YUMMY!  Silvija is very much like me and we laugh a lot!  Today we toured downtown Novi Sad.  It is beautiful and it's people are friendly!  We went to see an old fort and were able to get a beautiful view of the Danube!  We ate lunch together with the team and the Serbian hosts and leadership!  It is fun learning Serbian and teaching them English!  The language barrier has not been a problem!  Our hearts are connecting with the people here!
I can't wait to meet the children who will be in my English classes tomorrow!  B will help me!  We will be learning colors and shapes and numbers and the alphabet!  We are the best class because we get to play games!  Hooray!  I LOVE teaching!

We have met so many amzing people here and learned so much about the culture already!  The time is passing much too quickly!  Since we do not eat dinner here till 9:30 it is now midnight and I need to sleep!  So goodnight friends!

We will have more to report tomorrow and perhaps some pictures since we forgot to bring the camera today!

Twas the night before....

Hooray!  I figured out the secrets of creating a blog!  It's 11:30 the night before we leave for Serbia, but better late than never, right?

After months of planning and preparation (and a week of panic mode) we are packed and ready to leave on our 10:30 flight tomorrow!

We would like to begin our blog by thanking all of you who have had a hand in getting us ready!  Some have contributed financially!   Some have given of their time and talents, some have loaned us things (like suitcaeses, Kindles, iPods and adapters)!  Others have choosen to remain associated with us even through the era of the panic mode!  Tons of hugs and thanks to all of you!

Please pray for a safe flight and rest for the team as we make our way to Serbia!  Pray for those we will minister to!  And most importantly, pray that God will use us to acomplish His will!  Oh, and you can pray that Mother and daughter will come back friends!  ;-)

Bethany and I will both be writing about our Serbian adventure so check back often!  Thaks in advance for the prayer support!  "See" ya soon!
